Reports To: Program Director & Referee Coordinator

Position Summary

The Referee serves as a neutral official responsible for ensuring fair play, safety, and respect during league games. While referees are not required to be Christ followers, they must respect FCA’s mission, vision, and values. Referees help create a positive game environment that models sportsmanship, integrity, and consistency for athletes, coaches, and families.

Key Responsibilities

Game Management

• Officiate games fairly, consistently, and according to league rules.
• Enforce age-specific modifications and league philosophy of play.
• Ensure the safety of all athletes during competition.
• Manage the pace of games to maintain schedule integrity.

Communication & Leadership

• Communicate respectfully with coaches, players, and parents.
• Model professionalism, composure, and impartiality.
• Support league emphasis on sportsmanship and positive play.
• Report any game incidents or concerns to the Program Director.

League Support

• Participate in pre-game prayer and/or huddles led by coaches, prayer commissioners, or league staff.
• Assist with basic setup/cleanup of game-day equipment when needed.
• Attend scheduled league trainings and rules meetings.events.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the sport’s rules and ability to apply them consistently.
• Ability to remain calm and fair under pressure.
• Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Commitment to creating a positive environment for youth athletes.
• Willingness to support FCA’s mission and values, even if not a Christ follower.

Training & Requirements

• FCA Referee Orientation & League Rules Training.
• Conflict Resolution & Sportsmanship Training.
• FCA Child Safety Policy Training & Background Check (required).
• Prior officiating experience preferred but not required.
